Deb Medhekar’s Bioscopewala is an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s short story Kabuliwala. The film with Danny Denzongpa and Geetanjali Thapa as lead revolves around the story where a woman meets her dead father’s old friend , who was bioscope projectionist. He gave the best memories to her during her childhood. Deb Medhekar makers her debut as a director in Bollywood through this film.
Adil Hussain as Robi basu, father of lead Geetanjali Thapa as Minnie basu dies at the beginning of the movie in a plane crash. He was traveling from Calcutta to Afghanistan. When Minnie comes home after receiving the news that her father is no more she finds an old man at her place. She asks Bhola that who that old man is and what is he doing at her place. Soon she discovers that he is the murderer and has just now came out of the prison. She has to keep him with her as her father has signed various petitions before his death. She gradually recollects that the man is the Bioscopewala whom she loved a lot in her childhood days. She takes care of him and tries to find out why he was been in jail and what her dad wanted to do.
Danny Denzongpa: – Just like his earlier movies, he has just nailed his role as the lead actor. Danny is playing a role of bioscope projectionist. He plays both, old as well as young role of the bioscope projectionist. The variation between the old and the young can be made out. His innocence in his acting enhances films storyline.
Geetanjali Thapa: – Geetanjali has played her role fair enough. Extra efforts could have been poured. Acting wasn’t upto the mark which was expected from the young lady. But, overall performance was nice.
Tisca Chopra: – There wasn’t a huge contribution from her side but it was a small and sweet performance. There could be few improvements in future. She was playing the role of a muslim girl and she did it in a much better way.
Adil Hussain:- Even he didn’t had a huge role to play. He played the role of Robi Basu. There couldn’t be any better performance than this one.
Music: – There isn’t a wide range of songs in the movie. There is just one background song in the movie. The music is given by Sansesh Shandilya. The music is calm and cool and hence enhances the feel of the movie.
Direction: – Deb Medhekar making his first movie still completely nailed it. There can be hardly any mistakes in the direction in the movie. Usually, the debutant makes several mistakes but not the case with Deb. There is a huge expectation for more such movies from the director.
Cinespeaks Verdict: Overall, Bioscopewala is a brilliant story with amazing performances. The story, screenplay and direction are all good. Rabindranath Tagore’s fans should definitely watch this movie.Cinespeaks gives a rating of 3.5 stars
