Delnaaz Irani talks to us about her first web series, ‘Virgin Woman Diaries’, which looks into the love life of an 18 year old girl.
What made you take ‘Virgin Woman Diaries’?
This is my first web series, directed by Kabir Sadanand, a very dear friend. We did a play together long ago and so he approached me with the role. I thought why not try something different, other than television, theatre and films. I loved it. We did 12 episodes and I had a blast!
You started your career with a music video and then worked in ads, TV and movies. How do you view your journey up till now?
I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. I’m very grateful because very few people get the chance I did. I’ve done the best reality shows and television serials. I’ve done plays, in fact I’m doing one now in October. Now, I’m going digital!
I’ve gotten the complete package!
You’ve done a lot in your career, but what is the one genre that you would like to explore?
I really want to play a young mom to all the movie stars! I loved Reemaji in Maine Pyaar Kiya as Salman Khan’s mother. I want to see myself in that bracket. I feel I’d portray a mother very well.
Was acting always your career path?
I was actually interested in teaching, but then acting happened and then there was no looking back!
The recent films in the industry are quite different like Pink and Piku. What do you think of this change?
I think it’s wonderful! The audience has become more open to different kind of content, a lot of stuff that has never been done before. They are looking for a change and so it helps content creators explore. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Pink prove that! I loved Lipstick Under My Burkha! So, films that touch sensitive topics have become more acceptable and even in the web series, it’s about the desires of an 18 year old girl. It would never have been done before, but now, people will watch it.
Virgin Woman Diaries releases on 4th September, 2017.
