Arslan Goni is an accidental actor. He came to the city of dreams to pursue law and ended up on the big screen! He comes to us with the latest Richa Chadha and Kalki Koechlin starrer, ‘Jia Aur Jia’. Read on to know more about his journey!
You hail from Kashmir. It’s not a common source of actors, so how did you discover acting?
I was just born there. I was one of the lucky ones that got out. I went to study in boarding school and had always performed there. Then I came to Mumbai to study law, which is where I met my love – acting! I was afraid to tell my parents that this was what I wanted to pursue but when I finally did, they were very supportive.
How was it working with Richa Chadha and Kalki Koechlin?
I was so nervous! I couldn’t believe my luck when I got cast! I’m just a starter and they’re great actors in their own right. They used to bully me on set you know! (chuckles) But I had a great time and it was an honour to work with them.
Tell us about your character
In ‘Jia Aur Jia’, I’m the ‘Aur’! I basically come into the story as someone who is pursuing the love of their life and meet the main characters in the film. I fall for Kalki in the film and that’s how I’m involved.
Tell us about the plot.
So, basically, these 2 characters are thrust together into a trip to Sweden and they don’t really take to each other in the starting. But as the journey moves on, they learn more and more about each other and an unlikely friendship develops between them.
The acting scene in Kashmir is not that active. What do you have to say about that?
Actually there is an acting school there opened by Aamir Khan’s classmate. So, avenues are opening up. People are realizing the worth and so it will develop. I hope it will at least! It’s a lucrative field for those who are talented and is not explored enough!
