Sandeepa Dhar is going places not just because of her upcoming movie ‘Baraat Company’ but also due to her international project and upcoming webseries with Vikram Bhatt. In an exclusive interview with Cinespeaks, she speaks about it all. Excerpts :
1. How did Baraat Company happen to you?
Right after the release of ‘7 hours to go’, a couple of script came to me and one of it was Baraat Company. I loved it the script; especially my character in the film and that is how it happened. I was willing to give it a shot.
2. Do you enjoy doing comedy movies?
I definitely love comedy film. It’s a genre that most people love to watch and it’s equally difficult to be a part of. ‘Andaaz Aona Apna’ is one of my favorite comedy films, so I watch a lot of them and I enjoy them.
3. Tell us something about your international music “West Side Story”.
It is produced by the Australian dance company and directed and choreographed by Garry Stuart. It’s an off shoot of the Shakespearean play Romeo and Juliet. There was a hindi film loosely based on the West side story – Josh. Two gangs who don’t like each other and their member fall in love with one another, that’s what the basic story is. I play the lead character Maria. For me it’s been a fabulous experience. For actor theatre is a great platform. It also tests you as an actor, you can’t make mistakes. I have done more than 100 shows in 12 countries and the journey has been amazing.
4. How do you feel being associated with an international project?
It is definitely amazing. The fact that I am the only Indian in the whole crew is something to be proud of. I feel lucky to be a part of this; it is rare to opportunity that people get. It is also tough because you rehearse for so many months and sometimes it gets tiring, but having said that, I enjoy it too and I am extremely thankful to the director for casting me.
5. You are also a professional dancer, what would you choose between acting and dancing?
Well I can’t really choose between acting and dancing. I have been dancing since I was four. I didn’t plan on being an actor, it wasn’t planned. It happened by chance and now I enjoy both.
6. What do you have to say about your upcoming Web series?
My upcoming web series is called ‘Summer of Frost’. We will start the shooting in end September. It is one of those very rare and amazing scripts. It is very intense,it requires a lot of preparation. I haven’t explored something like that ever in my life. It’s a very leered and complex character. Web series is a new channel for all actors, there is so much you can do in the digital space.
7. How do you feel about the concept of Web Series..
Web series as a concept is great. There are so many untapped opportunities for content generation. Everyone is cued in the internet, and people want entertainment wherever and anywhere, web series complete that gap. It’s a great channel to be part of. It generates work for everyone.
8. How is it working with Vikram Bhatt?
Vikram is a fabulous creative individual. He blows me up. He is a fantastic narrator director. We haven’t started shooting for it yet, but I am really looking forward to work with him. Vikram is known for bringing the best out from his actors and I am looking forward for that. I couldn’t have asked for a better director to play this character with.
9. Who is your favorite actor in Bollywood and would like to work with?
My favorite actor is Ranbir and Ranveer. I think they both are very fabulous and it’s a pleasure to watch them on screen and I hope I get an opportunity to work with both of them or either of them in the near future.
10. Will we see you more in Bollywood movies after Baraat Company?
Yes you’ll see a lot more of me. I can’t really disclose the name or actor. It’s a different character and I am sharing the space with two great actors and I am really looking forward for it.
