INTERVIEW: PARESH RAWAL: THEATER IS MY HUGE ADDICTION AND I AM NOT HERE TO MAKE A POLITICAL CAREER

Paresh Rawal, is one of the actors who is praised and loved in all his characters. He will next be seen Uri-The surgical strike and also in Narendra Modi’s biopic. Uri is hitting the theaters on 11th January, 2019. Famous for his roles in Hera Pheri, Andaz Apna Apna, Sanju, OMG: Oh My God!,Welcome and the list goes on, he has made the audience laugh and cry with his wonderful performances.

Q. Are you a part of Narendra Modi’ biopic?
PARESH RAWAL
: Yes, Vivek Oberoi and I, both are doing the film. It will release soon but definitely after elections.

Q. Did you met Narendra Modi before hand?
PARESH RAWAL:
Yes, I’ve met him a lot of times. Even before PMO I knew about him and I’ve read a lot about him. I’ve even heard few of his lectures. He’s a brilliant man.

Q. PM Modi had great contribution in Uri surgical strike and now the movie is based upon it. Any comments regarding the same?
PARESH RAWAL:
They headed out with full planning and of course PM Modi had a great contribution in it. Indian army had a good system that time, even at 26/11 attacks, they had a great system planned but government didn’t allow them to take action. If we would have taken action at that time itself then maybe this Uri attack might have not taken place at all.

Q. Do you think other parties will get a good answer by this movie?
PARESH RAWAL:
Yes, definitely. They have already got their answers.

Q. There are words flying out that this movie will purposely be released during elections. What your say on that?
PARESH RAWAL:
In a country like India, elections are always taking place somewhere. But that doesn’t mean, we should not do any work and not make any film. The Accidental Prime Minister, this Modi’s biopic and even Thackarey’s biopic are receiving the same comments about elections.

Q. Do you think political parties interference in movies?
PARESH RAWAL:
Yeah, parties usually interfere because everyone wants something or the other. They do this just to make people realize that their parties are still upright and for gaining importance. Everyone is aware of this fact.

Q. Now that Bollywood is making movies related to Indian Army, people are about bashing against them, what do you think about it?
PARESH RAWAL:
Critics will always be critical of everything. If Modi sir is going somewhere, he is obviously going their to maintain and strengthen the connections and not to eat cake. Because when he visited Nawaz Sharif, we could see the strength of there relation. Anything could have happened there but he still went with a trust. What can be a bigger statement than this that he went there without much protection to build relations of friendship.and these idiots on Twitter and all are saying things which don’t make sense. They should also understand this that Pakistan is a country which will not get better at one go. They don’t see the step taken by Modi sir for the betterment for everyone.

Q. Media now a days feel insecure when it comes to say or write their opinions regarding the government. What is your take on it?
PARESH RAWAL:
I don’t agree with it. Today’s government has Modi as it’s head, he who has ruled Gujarat for around 14 years as CM. That time, there was not a single day where media did not criticize him on the front or the back page. Even after this, he hasn’t been violent with any reporter nor he closed down any newspaper. In fact he used to say, if I am the reason behind your food and your happiness while you make fun of me or say bad things about me then I am okay with it. Not even once he declared curfew there. So in a country like this, if you say Modi government makes me feel insecure and put me in jail or so then it’s your personal problem and you can carry on saying it because he won’t do any such thing. The sad think here is the Pakistani’s get a handle that Imran Khan has said this. But they should look only into their country. All this is circus and everything is copied like the return of award or even candle March. We shouldn’t pay attention to all this.

Q. Stone pelting in Kashmir is happening a lot, don’t you get angry about it?
PARESH RAWAL:
I get absolutely angry. Our soldiers die because of it. And still they disrespect our soldiers. What can be done with these people? It’s a good thing that army still believes in democratic well being.

Q. As far freedom of speech and press is related, what do you feel about Navjot Singh Sindhu being banned on Kapil Sharma show?
PARESH RAWAL:
He should not be banned. When he comes on the show and talks about our country then people will talk ill about it. But I think it’s his way of earning and his job so why not. This is our hard point, we let go of things easily. Don’t criticize the country, criticize the government. Criticising Army and our Institution is not right.

Q. What do you think about India relationship with China?
PARESH RAWAL:
China the requires different kind of attention and different kind of handling. It’s not something that you and I could do, even America can’t do it. When I think about China, I think our pace should be slow and steady. We have to manage the relation that we’ve and not worsen it.

Q. What were the new things that surprised you while shooting Uri?
PARESH RAWAL:
the planning and preparation that was done was done amazingly. They went in so methodically. And it was dangerous too. Modi sir wanted their soldiers to return safely whether the operation becomes successful or not.

Q. Do you think this movie will create an affect on Pakistan?
PARESH RAWAL:
No, I don’t think so.

Q. How do you see the Me too movement that started in the industry last year?
PARESH RAWAL:
This is a very sensitive issue. It’s dangerous for someone who has gone through it. Sometimes people don’t have the courage to come out and speak. But later when you see other people speak out, you are also able to gather courage. But then don’t go to social media, straightaway go to the police station. As soon as you go on social media, your credibility decreases. Then people might think that this person doesn’t need justice but needs revenge. Justice will be given in police station, social media is not the right place.

Q. Do you have plans to join politics seriously?
PARESH RAWAL:
No, I’m not here to make a political career. I’m supporting Mr. Modi, whether there is election or no election.

Q. What is your take on reservation?
PARESH RAWAL:
10% is done as of now, let’s see what happens in the future. Government is trying.

Q. Any future projects planned up?
PARESH RAWAL:
We’re planning 2-3 films. I haven’t received anything related to Hera Pheri 3. But if it comes to me and the script isn’t nice then I won’t do it.

Q. Why do you think people are paying so much now a days for plays and theatres?
PARESH RAWAL:
The fun of live entertainment is very different. Whatever a film might try but can never match up to love entertainment. It’s more thrilling and satisfying. When people used to take 5000rs per show, I used to take 1500rs. The theatre is a big drug for me.
