Karan Johar is that director of Bollywood who is known for bringing together the culture of Indian families and Indians in general in his movies to ring in the sense of emotion inside us.. His films are classic examples of culture and values impersonated. He takes care of moral values, religion, culture everything to ensure his movies have a varied and mass appeal. One gets reminded of movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, My Name is Khan etc in this regard.
However, it seems like Karan has mistakenly missed out the plot in reality which has not gone down too well with the Assamese people and culture.
He is currently judging reality show India’s Got Talent along with actresses Kirron Kher and Malaika Arora Khan and they often share ‘behind the scene videos’ on social media called Toodle.
In one such video late on Monday, Karan was seen pulling Kirron’s leg, for wearing a traditional headgear, which was gifted to her by a contestant from Arunachal Pradesh.
Karan, too, was given one. But he had not put it on. In the video, Kirron asks why he did not, to which, the filmmaker, goofing around, said: “Because you have guts, I don’t.”
This did not go down well with the Assamese people who thought it was sheer disrespect to their culture and they were quick to think that
Karan was being “disrespectful” towards the “Japi” — a traditional hat from Assam — which is a “symbol of respect for all the people of Assam.
Realizing the uncalled for situation, Karan Johar in order to reduce the smoke of fire came with a clarification tweet today on Twitter and put his views.
We hope the matter is resolved soon and it doesn’t stretch too far for KJO.
