Mahesh Pandey launches Vidya

Writer-Producer Mahesh Pandey, under Mahesh Pandey Productions, premiered his new show Vidya on 9th September. The cast and crew watched the first episode together on the sets of the show and celebrated the launch. Present in the celebration were actors Meera Deosthale, Lilliput and Vaqar Sheikh.

The show will air on Colors.

Talking about how the show was conceptualized Mahesh says that it was a visit to his village in UP that opened his eyes to the education system, or lack thereof, there. “I visited my village, a few years ago, and what I witnessed there was horrible. I saw that, in spite of having all the facilities provided by the government, like mid-day meals, financial aid to provide books to uniforms, even to the extent of money for smart classrooms, schools were in a terrible state. People running these facilities were more concerned with making money for themselves than caring about the children who are the future of the country,” he says.

He adds, “I also came across a video on YouTube titled ‘English teacher in Samastipur’, which showed an English teacher teaching the kids incorrect spellings of basic words. ‘Apple’ was spelt as ‘Apil’ and ‘Monday’ as ‘Mande’. These teachers get such jobs by making fake certificates and fooling the system. It was then that I realized that there is no sense of responsibility and innocent children were suffering in the bargain. This is why I decided to make this show.”

Talking about the show, he says, “There is, of course, a fictional story attached to it, where a girl named Vidya, who is uneducated, ends up with a teacher’s job and how she deals with her issues. And how, the same girl, will understand what happens around her, and will not only fight with the people who are corrupting the system, but at the same time, change it.”

Well, we hope this show brings about a change in the education system in the country too!
