Malishka Mendonsa has always presented the woes of Mumbai in an entertaining manner with her quirky delivery over radio and the content she brings to the fore. Known as Mumbai Ki Rani, Malishka created a wild sensation across the country with her extremely popular pothole song last year. For all her contribution to the radio, entertainment and media industry, the livewire has received the honour of a mention in IMPACT magazine’s 50 Most Influential Women in Media, Marketing and Advertising 2018, ranking seventh on the list.
Interestingly, Malishka, who debuted alongside Vidya Balan in Tumhari Sulu, was introduced on to the stage by a foreward written by the award-winning actress.
In her foreward, Vidya mentioned, “Malishka is authentic! I guess that’s what makes her a success at whatever she attempts. Hers is a story that is constantly evolving and therefore inspiring. More power to you my lady!”
Says Malishka, “This year has been about breaking out of the box, challenging perceptions about exploring every bit of talent whether it is film, TV or digital. At the same time it has been hugely gratifying to have the public’s undying support for whenever I’ve been their voice. I hope my journey inspires many other women to go beyond being typecast in their respective roles. I am grateful for all the love and opportunities that have come my way.”
Amassing over five lakh followers in just the last year, Malishka is one of the most influential women on Twitter with a total follower count of 1.27 million.
IMPACT’s list ranking 50 Most Influential Women in Media, Marketing and Advertising is an endeavour to acknowledge the achievements of women who give a whole new meaning to the words – power and influence. These women have not just made significant contributions in the media domain and broken through the proverbial glass ceiling, but have also played a crucial role in changing the way the industry is perceived today.
