Manikarnika The Queen of Jhansi is certainly one of the most anticipated movies of 2019. However, the going has been full of challenges for this movie from the moment go. First the leading lady of the movie Kangana Ranuat injured herself and had to shoot despite the stitches. In addition, to this director Krish had to step out of the movie because he had other commitments.
In a recent interview Kangana Ranaut was asked about these challenges and how she managed to pull through in such tough circumstances. She talked about how she had to take up the direction in her own hands in order to make sure that Manikarnika gets completed in stipulated time.
The national award winning actress says, “At that time when all this was happening I was feeling absolutely judged, attacked and harassed. I distinctly remember being in one of the dialogue sitting and ask Prasoon [Joshi] Sir why there is so much opposition when it comes to people like me. There is also a whole lot of respect that I have and the biggest testimonial of this is the amount of work that I keep getting and it is absolutely criminal the kind of films that I let go off with big heroes and big production houses. That is when he said something very interesting to me, which is mediocrity will always be threatened by talent. There is nothing mediocrity fears more than talent. Which I think is perhaps the case, because I don’t feel threatened by anyone around or shy away from praising anyone. I praised Sonakshi’s Lootera the whole year and when I saw Raazi, I praised it and did not go into whose film it is. Why do others pretend as if I don’t exist? Even though my trailer has crossed millions of views, why is that no one else wants to talk about it?”
Manikarnika, which also has Ranaut making her debut as a director, is the biopic of Rani Laxmibai – Jhansi ki Rani. It also stars Ankita Lokhande, Jisshu Sengupta Atul Kulkarni, Mishti Chakraborty, Danny Denzongpa and Suresh Oberoi in pivotal roles. Its script has been penned by Vijayendra Prasad, of Baahubali fame, while the dialogues have been written by Prasoon Joshi. Manikarnika is produced by Zee Studios in association with Kamal Jain and Nishant Pitti and will be releasing on January 25.
