Richa Chadha is not just known to be vocal about social issues but also to take a staunch stand and take action when required. Which is why it’s interesting to see Richa take on the portrayal of ‘Paro’ in Sudhir Mishra’s Daas Dev which is touted to be the reverse journey of DevDas set against the turbulent political backdrop of Uttar Pradesh.
Richa portrays a girl who is spunky, independent and has a mind of her own. The ‘Paro’ Of Daas Dev does not shy away having her her own individual take on situations and being vocal about her beliefs. She journeys from a girl in love to one who gets involved in various social welfare activities and eventually takes on her ‘Dev’ head on in the political arena, always retaining the right to do wrong in order to do right.
Sources from the production house say that Richa did a lot of research to get into the skin of the character. It seems that Richa closely followed many female politicians while preparing for the role, following many rallies and debates and absorbing the poise, restraint and body language of the women politicians of our time. Not only did she deeply study the conduct of the politicians but also closely studied their look, seeking inspiration on how to enunciate how her character evolves from script to screen.
Said Richa, ‘ As an actor I work hard to get into the skin of every character I play. Paro resonates with me personally and I find many of her traits true to mine. An interesting challenge was learning and absorbing how to play a woman politician and to this end I did a fair amount of research. The look however is always crucial and so part of my research was on how to comprehensively look like a young woman politician who would be taken seriously. Along with the costume design team we decided on incorporating Indian weaves, Khadi, Cotton and elegant sari’s after researching the look extensively. ‘Paro’ has always been an iconic character, but with Daas Dev ‘Paro’ can once again become the icon of today.’
Daas Dev boasts of a stellar star cast with Rahul Bhat playing Dev, Richa Chadha playing Paro and Aditi Rao Hyderi playing Chandni. In step with the lead cast is Saurabh Shukhla in one of the most complex roles of his career, Vipin Sharma, Dalip Tahil, Deep Raj Rana, Anil Sharma and Sohaila Kapoor. Anurag Kashyap and Vineet Singh will be seen in guest appearances.
