Tu hai mera Sunday is a small budget film and the buzz around the film started becoming more and more as it starred one of the most famous and renowned TV Actors Barun Sobti in it. The film got awards from various international film festivals across the globe all around the world and after being such a critically acclaimed film worldwide the makers decided to release it in India too. Fans of Barun, his friends in TV industry and his family were eagerly waiting for this film to release and now after watching it we can say that we’re really not disappointed as film was very real in its storytelling and took a very important issue of how playing football on beaches in Mumbai is more or less not allowed anymore and how the 5 friends who belong to different age groups and careers are brought together by their love for football and entire drama that surrounds it forms the heart or main plot of the story.

Story –

It’s a story of 5 friends who are totally different from each other but are brought together due to their common love for the game football. The film starts with them playing football at Juhu beach and how an old man comes and kicks their ball which straightaway lands on the head of the president of Juhu residential committee due to which playing football on beaches gets banned.

It’s a story of how all these friends get angry, furious and frustrated due to the ban and start searching a new place to play football every Sunday in a hustling and bustling over crowded city like Mumbai but they don’t get a place over there. How they then decide to go to Goa where their life changes drastically as all things become pleasant and good is what all the film revolves around.

Story of the film was very comical, hilarious, with a dash of situational comedy filled with adventures and a surge of adrenaline rush throughout. It was funny, humorous and so full of laughter that honestly it did a damn good job of keeping the audiences glued to the screens and was victorious in grabbing the attention and eyeballs of them.

There was not even a single moment where people watching the film did not laugh. Their laughter was very real, heart felt, pure and unfiltered which is something very rare that we experience and get to see nowadays as an audience. We always expect this thing from big budget films but they fail in that department but an honest and real film like ‘’Tu hai mera Sunday’’ has ultimately been very successful in doing so.

There was no childish approach towards the most important characters in the film around which the story revolves which is also one of the main reasons of this film turning out to be something very different yet intriguing and ultimately it was successful in every way in creating that magic on the screens that it wanted to.

Performance –

Barun Sobti as Arjun Anand has perfectly played his role with utter sincerity and honesty and he has literally charmed and floored us with his acting, dialogue delivery, acting, expressions and emotions throughout the movie. He has given his 200% to his character in the film which is very superb and awesome thing in itself.

Vishal Malhotra comes back to screen after a long time with this film. He plays character of Dominic who’s on very bad terms with his elder brother due to something that happened in past which is a cause of concern and worry for their mother. The actor is very much in synchronization with his character and his expressions, emotions, dialogue delivery is just fabulous and bang on which can be seen in the movie.

Shahana Goswami as Kavya was amazing. Her acting was very natural in itself. Her expressions were just apt and in flow with her character. She has proved that she’s a very natural and effortless actress and we could literally not take our eyes away from her whenever she was in the frame.

Other actors like Rasika Duggal, Maanvi Gagroo, Avinash Tiwary, Nakul Bhalla, Jay Upadhyay, Pallavi Batra, Shivkumar Subramaniam, and Sandiip Sikcand also did their roles whole heartedly and with utter perfection and they proved that they were just fit and apt for their roles in film and have done complete justice to their roles as well.

Screenplay –

Screenplay is a very important part of any film as a strong screenplay helps in bringing out all the main characters more beautifully than what is expected.

In this film particularly to be specific the screenplay was very strong which was clearly seen as everything was treated with so much attention, care and with minute detailing that the film just turned out to be more visually spectacular and left us absolutely mesmerised and awestruck as well.

Cinematography and Direction –

Surprisingly first time debutant director Milind Dhaimade’s direction in his directorial venture ‘’ Tu Hai Mera Sunday’’ was very strong where every character just turned out to be more outstanding and splendid than what was expected in the movie originally by people who were watching it in theatres.

Cinematography was very strong where each and every scene in film was looking very genuine, real, raw, aesthetically picture perfect and amazing and each and every detail in the film was given lots of attention by the director Milind Dhaimade to make sure the main characters in the film and the story pans out more brilliantly then what was expected by the people watching the film.

Each character was given equal screen space and dialogues were very impactful and just aptly created and fit for every actor playing their part.

Music –

Amartya Rahut the music composer who had composed music for Hindi films like Aagey Se Right (2009), Aurangzeb (2013), Mr. Joe B Carwalho (2014), and Marathi Film ‘’Uttarayan’’ (2004) has composed the music for this film as well. Startlingly this composer has composed best and amazing music for this film.

The music of film is just perfect according to the setting, storyline and the kind of mood in which the film is set. All the songs of the film are so melodious, soulful, soothing and had that charm in them that makes you want to listen to them again and again. Tu Hai Mera Sunday title track by Shalmali Kholgade, Thodi Si Jagah and Dhoondlo Tum by Arijit Singh are such amazing songs that audiences were literally crooning and gently humming the lyrics in theatre.

Cinespeaks Verdict –

Plot of the film was very strong where we did see that the film turned out as a visual treat to be watched by the people in theatres.

It is a one time watch film but if you are Barun Sobti fan, you should go and watch it as with this he has proved that this was a very excellent and brilliant performance by him and he has that aura, charm, persona and enthusiasm to perform.

All the other characters have also worked very hard and with passion which can be clearly seen by the way they were acting their part, saying dialogues, expressing their emotions in every scene so it’s a teamwork effort of everyone involved which made this just a magical experience for people who watched it.
