Excerpts from the conversation…
On his casting in 1995 TV soap Swabhimaan
Rohit: Swabhimaan was India’s first daily soap on Doordarshan in those days. There is an interesting small story in my casting for Swabhimaan. I happened to be at my then girlfriend’s place (Mansi Joshi) who is my wife now and she had received a call from the makers of the show. Daily soap’s weren’t popular in those days and there was some sort of confusion. So, I made an inquiry call to the makers and landed up for an audition. Interestingly, my audition was rejected and I didn’t receive any call from the makers. Few days later, I was once again called to audition for a serious role. After my casting, I later came to know that Mahesh Bhatt had approved my audition which was rejected by a lot of other people.
On his journey from Swabhimaan to Bouma Detective
Rohit: My journey over the years has been really amazing and I feel extremely fortunate and blessed. I think besides Farhan Akhtar, I have done the whole gamut (Theatre, Television, Films and now Web Series) except singing. Up’s and down’s is a part of everyone’s life and sailing successfully through tough times is what makes you even more stronger. I remember a phase of my life in 2014 when I worked for only 9 days in that whole year. I really had no work in that year. Presently, I am really in a happy space after receiving appreciation for Kaabil from critics and the audience alike.
On competing with his elder brother Ronit Roy
Rohit: Honestly speaking, Ronit is like a father figure to me and there cannot be any sort of competition between a father and a son. I have been facing this question over the years but there is absolutely no sense of competitive nature between both of us. We both have been mutually supporting each other’s work over the years. I remember Ronit gaining a big boost when he did Kausauti Zindagi Kay. On a similar note, he too feels really happy when I do good work.
On his wife Mansi Joshi’s come back
Rohit: Mansi was recently seen in a TV soap Dhhai Kilo ka Prem. She is extremely conscious while selecting her projects. We both shall soon feature in a web series based on a husband wife relationship on the lines of divorce.
On his upcoming projects
Rohit: I have wrapped up my shoot for JP Dutta’s upcoming film Paltan. The film is based on the Indo China war and has an ensemble cast of actors like Arjun Rampal, Luv Sinha, Siddhant Kapoor, Sonu Sood among others. I will also soon feature in Vikram Bhatt’s upcoming Web Series titled Memories.
