Salony Luthra’s ‘Forbidden’ exposes the ugly truth of honour killings in the United States

Actor Salony Luthra‘s upcoming dramatic thriller ‘Forbidden‘ is set to be an eye-opener across international film circuits with the film highlighting the evil practice of honour killing in the western world. Actor Salony Luthra who has consistently wowed the audience and critics with her compelling and brilliant performances plays the main character in the film.

‘Forbidden’ is based on the true story of a girl named Jasleen who was born and raised in New York and a doctor by profession who lost her life at the young age of 25.

Salony Luthra says, “‘Forbidden’ is a true life love story of a very courageous girl born and raised in New York City who paid the price to follow her heart. The issue of honour killing is not just a third world problem as they call it but it is present everywhere across borders, religions and sections of the society. With this film, I only hope and pray that I have been able to do justice to this courageous girl’s life story and many other girls who have been victims to honour killing. The mission of this film is to end violence against women living outside of their native countries. In addition, it is to ignite a social change that will compel the legal system to take action against criminals who commit heinous crimes against women in the name of family honour.”

According to findings by the Women’s Advocacy Group, 20,000 women and girls are killed every year due to honour killing. Reports submitted to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights show that the brutal practice has occurred in at least twenty-six countries. Of the twenty-six, nine are western countries with large immigrant communities including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

The film is touted to be a shocker for the U.S. Legal and Human Rights Department since none are aware about the brutal death of Jasleen and with this film, the makers are hoping to bring to light the death of this young girl and the fact that she has been missing for years with none of the authorities taking any action.

‘Forbidden’ is Salony’s second film to be screened at the New York Indian Film Festival. She has had two of her films being premiered back-to-back in New York and in the festival circuit, first being ‘Kajal’ and now ‘Forbidden’, both where she plays central strong female characters.

Apart from Salony Luthra the film stars Gulshan Grover, Gopal Divan and Dhanish Karthik.
