The much talked about and promoted film Veere Di Wedding has finally hit the screens. The film opened to mixed reviews from the critics and the film starring Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shikha Talsania and Swara Bhasker is going strong at the cinema halls. The film opened to an impressive Box-Office collection on its Opening Day (10 Crores). The film has been produced by Rhea Kapoor and directed by Shashanka Ghosh.
In an interview with Cinespeaks, actresses Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Swara Bhasker speak to us.
While interacting with the press, Swara Bhasker said, “Veere Di Wedding is not a film about being a feminist or not. It is a simple story of four women friends and the film highlights several aspects such as love, marriage and friendship etc. So, we are not holding any banners in the film about feminism. Veere Di Wedding is probably the first film in Hindi Cinema where four women characters are not falling for the same guy or being raped. It is just a real story of real people who are around us. I think we only had one dimensional depiction of women in our cinema till now and Veere Di Wedding is showing the real women. So, it is a progressive change. For me, Veere Di Wedding is an empowering and liberating film.”
Actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja too who plays one of the lead characters in the film said, “I don’t like labelling and tags which are attached to any piece of art. Everyone has their own perspective. We haven’t made a film which is racist, sexist or homophobic. It is a story of four women friends who are going through various phases in their lives. It is not a chick flick as many people are calling it out to be. I think it is wrong to be judgemental without watching a film.”
