Since the time news broke that Akshay Kumar would play the lead role in Pad Man, there has been a lot of excitement among . Moviegoers were eager to see how the Bollywood superstar would slip into the role of Arunachalam Muruganantham (the social entrepreneur from Coimbatore, who invented low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural areas). The movie, has been close to his heart as it is the debut production venture of his better half Twinkle Khanna, who was the first to chronicle Muruganantham’s journey in her book.
Akshay, on his part, had piqued the audience’s curiosity further by consistently sharing the film’s posters and teasers over the last two weeks. The excitement finally reached a crescendo with the trailer releasing on December 15.
It not only created a frenzy online but left Akki’s fans wanting for more. Within just hours of its launch, the trailer started trending on YouTube, which is a remarkable feat considering it usually takes 12 to 24 hours for a video to do so.
The promo enjoyed the number one spot on the video-sharing platform for the next 24 hours not only in India but also in UAE, Australia and Pakistan. This shows that the film’s content has a global reach and the trailer has struck a chord with audiences in various parts of the world.
When it comes to starring in movies with a social cause, Akshay has been leading the pack in Bollywood. Earlier, his last film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha held the record of being his most viewed trailer but now Pad Man has broken that record too.
