Soorma is a 2018 Indian biographical film based on the life of hockey player Sandeep Singh, directed by Shaad Ali. It is produced by Sony Pictures Networks India and The CS Films. Diljit Dosanjh and Tapsee Pannu play the lead roles in the film. The film is scheduled to release on 13 July 2018.
On working in Soorma and her character in the film, Tapsee Pannu said, “I love sports and it was amazing to star in a sports film like Soorma. The film is primarily about hockey player Sandeep Singh but the credit for his success also goes to the people who are associated with him. I play a character called Harpreet who has an important role to play in the success of Sandeep Singh. I cannot reveal much details about the story. For me, it was an amazing experience to work in this film. At the same time, it was also a bit embarrassing because I never knew or heard about such an inspiring story of a sports personality.”
When we asked Diljit Dosanjh on starring in a sports biopic, Diljit said, “I am happy to star in Soorma. The story of Sandeep Singh is very inspiring and he is a definition for the term living legend. I have never played Hockey and it was a challenge to get the sport right. Sports biopics in Bollywood have really worked well over the years. I remember watching Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story which were very well received by the audience. So, I am extremely happy to star in a sports biopic so early in my career.”
On questioning her working experience with co star Diljit Dosanjh and her favourite sport, Tapsee said, “It was great working with him. As an actor, I always feed on my co stars energy on the sets. I reciprocate in that way. So, I always give the credit of my performance to my director and my co stars. My favourite sport is squash and I play it five times a week.”
