Movie Review of Veere Di Wedding
Cast: Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Shikha Talsania, Summer Vyas’
Director: Shashanka Ghosh
Story: Veere Di Wedding is a story of 4 childhood friends who are now grown up – Kalandi (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Avni (Sonam Kapoor Ahuja), Sakshi (Swara Bhasker) and Meera (Shikha Talsania). The four women are now busy in their respective lives but stay connected with each other. Rishabh (Sumeet Vyas) proposes marriage to Kalandi and she confusedly agrees for the same. The Veeres then fly down for Kalandi’s marriage and the rest of the story is about their bonding, friendships and the lives of every character.
Kareena Kapoor Khan who has returned to the silver screen post a maternity break is flawless. She gets some amazing scenes and delivered a phenomenal performance. Her acting prowess and good looks will surely make you go wow!
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is all dressed up in designer clothes designed by her sister Rhea Kapoor. There is little to notice in her performance and her character of shades like that of Khoobsurat and Aisha. There is nothing new in her performance.
Swara Bhasker gets her lines very well and is shining throughout the film. She gets a good amount of screen space.
Shikha Talsania is pretty average in her performance. Sumeet Vyas as the male lead is hilarious and funny alongwith Manoj Pahwa.
Music and Dialogues: Tareefan is an upbeat track. The background score is full of house and too loud. Dialogues are too disappointing and seem forced and full of unnecessary words.
Direction: Director Shashanka Ghosh tries too hard in making a point through this film. The women in this film drink, swim in bikinis and are totally broad minded women who are on a mission to destroy stereotypes and societal norms. The messaging through the film seems too much stressed and forced. On the screenplay front, the plot lacks substance and an interesting storyline. The script is dragging at certain points and doesn’t hold your attention. Speaking of attention, the director could have given much thought to the story rather than the costumes of the actresses. Throughout the film, there are several advertisements of brands and the women are all dolled up in fashionable clothes. The film could have been much more better than what it is.
Cinespeaks Verdict: On the whole Veere Di Wedding is a one time watch only. The film fails to make a string impressionable impact on the audience. The film has funny elements and a weak script. Cinespeaks gives a rating of 2.5stars.
