The show is the first Indian television show to become a hit globally
Author Farrukh Dhondy who is a close friend of legendary actor-producer Sanjay Khan talks about the television show ‘The Sword of Tipu Sultan’ which was produced by Sanjay Khan and even acted in it.
Farrukh Dhondy, the author of sixteen books who also used to be the head of Channel 4 in London says, “I was first shown this show and I immediately liked it. It was a huge success in India and I wanted it to play in the US as well where it could be shown to the international audiences. So I bought the show for Channel 4 and it was a massive success. It was the first time where an Indian television show had been broadcasted to international audiences.”
Sanjay Khan not just acted in numerous films and produced high-quality cinema, but he also produced the first magnum opus television show called ‘The Sword of Tipu Sultan’ which ruled the TRP game in the 1980s and 1990s.
Such anecdotes are part of Sanjay Khan’s autobiography titled ‘The Best Mistakes Of My Life’ which has been released by Penguin India and was launched at a grand pre-Diwali event in Mumbai recently. The autobiography has the actor-author at his candid best with a bare-all look at his journey in Bollywood and outside of it. From films to politics to his near-death accidents, Khan writes on all his life-changing moments.
Sanjay Khan has acted in more than 40 films and produced and directed films like ‘Chandi Sona’, ‘Kala Dhanda Goray Log’ and the television classic ‘The Sword of Tipu Sultan’. He is the recipient of the ‘National Citizen Award’ twice, the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence’ and the ‘Gem of India Award for Excellence’ among many other honors.
