“Being from UP didn’t help. I had to start from zero” – Ali Fazal

Actor Ali Fazal is clearly the talk of the town. The actor whom we have seen earlier in impressive roles in movies like 3 Idiots, Fukrey, Fukrey Returns, Khamoshiyan is back in action and in a totally different avatar.

Fazal who plays the character of Guddu Pandit, a gangster of UP region didn’t just have to undergo mental changes for the role but also a physical one.

Yes you heard it.. While engaging in a conversation with CineSpeaks, he said

“I had to bulk up by 10kgs to look like a dreaded gangster in Mirzapur and then tone down again to play a boy next door image in Milan Talkies. ”

On being asked about whether being from UP helped in the case or not, the actor said, ” I was born in Delhi and I grew up a bit in Lucknow and I grew further up in Dehra Dun. So even though I know the UP and Uttaranchal region, I don’t know this belt. My home town is Allahabad but I don’t know Allahabad.. And its very different..they way its spoken so I had to start from scratches even for the film I did on Allahabad.. So when people ask me if it helped or not, I tell them the story. I had to start from Zero. ”

Mirzapur is based on an imaginary lawless land where ammunition and crime take the centrestage. The series also stars Rasika Dugal, Pankaj Tripathi and Shweta Tripathi. Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar serve as the executive producers of the OTT platform Video’s project created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmmeet Singh.

On workfront, the actor will also be seen opposite Sanjay Dutt in ‘Prasthaanam’ which he is currently shooting for.
