EXCLUSIVE: INTERVIEW WITH Telengana’s Manasa Varanasi VLCC Femina Miss India World 2020

Manasa Varanasi, an engineer from Telangana, on Wednesday night emerged as the winner of VLCC Femina Miss India World 2020. The jury panel comprised actors Neha Dhupia, Chitrangada Singh, Pulkit Samrat and renowned designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock. Here is an interview with Manasa Varanasi that gives us an insight into her life.

How do you feel achieving this title?
A mix of gratitude and excitement! Super grateful for every person and moment that has contributed to my being here. It’s been quite the ride but I also believe that the journey’s just begun! Very excited to pour my energy into the next leg – Miss World 2021.

Tell us about your journey and challenges you faced?
I’m from a very academically oriented family, so pageants were never a goal of mine. However, I am by nature, a curious person, and as I have found that true growth only comes from expanding your boundaries, and in making your life meaningful. It is these two reasons – a desire to grow by exposing myself to new experiences, and to give back – which is at the core of Miss World’s mission – that led me to take part in the Miss India contest.

How supportive were your family and friends?
I come from a simple, academic oriented family and so they did have their reservations initially, but over time they realized how passionate I was and they’ve transformed into my cheerleaders!

You were into Classical dancing and Engineering, when did you decide you wanted to go for a beauty pageant?
I consider curiosity my best friend – she’s always encouraged me to push myself mentally and physically – this curiosity coupled with my desire to give back nudged me in the direction of this beauty pageant.

We got to know that Priyanka Chopra is your role model…what qualities of hers deeply inspires you?
I’ve always admired the strength with which she speaks and carries herself. As a shy, introverted child I often found it difficult to express myself and it’s taken a lot of situations outside my comfort zone to help me step out of my shell – watching her exercise her voice with grace and courage is something I find very inspiring.

Which personality traits of Priyanka Chopra you find common with yours?
I believe the biggest commonality is our desire to explore! We don’t like to box ourselves under a certain category and constantly chase our desire to learn and grow.

Will we be seeing you in Movies or on Television in near future?
Only time will tell – I’ve always loved exploring different learning opportunities and if there’s something that piques my interest.. then why not? 🙂

Knowing that your favourite desserts are Tiramisu, Nutella etc….how do you manage to maintain your fitness?
I’ve always been flexible about my diet – I love eating to my heart’s content. What’s important of course is to consistently follow it up with exercise!

According to you…what does it take to win a beauty pageant?
It takes confidence, awareness about yourself, world around you and the passion to grow and make a difference.

If there were to be a book written on your life, what would you want it to be titled as? Serendipity

What genre of movies do you prefer to watch?
I love watching anything that tickles the mind! – usually I prefer watching Sci-Fi, Mystery or RomComs.

Among all the judges, who was your most favourite judge?
It was a true honour interacting with the esteemed panel this year, but if I had to pick one – it would have to be Neha Dhupia! I’ve always admired the strength with which she carries herself.

Did you face any negativity on your journey to achieve this title?
My journey’s had its fair share of ups and downs and because the pageant was mostly virtual this year – I faced a lot of challenges while shooting videos and content at home, every little disturbance – whether it was a cooker whistle or power cut – would require me to reshoot content and passing through each moment patiently was quite the task haha

According to you, what are beauty pageants about?
I believe pageants are about celebrating women and their power to change the world – they give you a sense of agency to engage in projects that are far greater than yourself.
And as a titleholder myself, I feel immense pride and responsibility to educate myself and everyone around me!
