A male cop against a ruthless villain is a regular formula in Bollywood industry over the years. Mardaani released in 2014 broke that myth with powerful performances of Rani Mukerji as Shivani Shivaji Roy and Tahir Raj Bhasin in villainous role. If you still remember that Female Cop vs Male Villain phenomena then raise your expectations because Mardaani 2 takes the bar much higher this time. Coming with relevant theme like Rape cases in our country on right time makes Mardaani 2 even more convincing and relatable.
In Mardaani 2 Rani Mukerji as Shivani Shivaji Roy, a policewoman, attempts to hunt down a 21 years old young and ferocious man Sunny (Vishal Jethwa) who goes on raping and murdering women for his honour. He just doesn’t stop there, he makes it look more cruel and ruthless with his activities. The entire narrative shows you how does she manage to catch him and punish him.
Rani Mukerji as Shivani Roy is absolutely brilliant. There are not many instances of Bollywood actresses playing a hard hitting cop, even if we had many still Rani Mukerji would have topped the list. She is that much brilliant. She is one of the finest actress we have seen in Bollywood and this time she proves it again. On the other side a young, dynamic and talented Vishal Jethwa is a total surprise package. He has done some amazing acting in Mardaani 2 and it feels unbelievable knowing that he has done it in this small age. Supporting cast is brilliant too.
What makes Mardaani 2 better than regular cop dramas is it’s screenplay and the fashion of storytelling. Unlike other masala entertainers Mardaani 2 doesn’t have unnecessary spicy things for the sake of entertainment. It sticks to it’s content from the first frame, from the credits to the End. 105 minutes of this thrilling ride never gives you a chance to take a nap or move your eyes somewhere else.
Cinespeaks Verdict- Director and Writer Gopi Puthran deserves all the credit for his Excellent writing and amazing directorial skills. He experimented some strategies with the villain to make his direct connect with the audience, to make him look unwatchable monster and he succeeds. Also with Rani he makes you feel her anger and enthusiasm. You feel like, i want to join her in this mission of punishing those bastards and Mardaani 2 Wins the battle here. It just couldn’t get better to have a solid Female Cop against young villain and making audience go gaga over them. Overall, Mardaani 2 is a Must See and a Grand Salute to Rani and YRF for this truly Mardaani Film.
