Actor Saif Ali Khan who was last seen in Chef (2017) is all set to return to the big screen with his upcoming film Kaalakaandi. Kaalakaandi is a black comedy film featuring actors Akshay Oberoi, Vijay Raaz, Shobhita Dhulipala, Kunaal Roy Kapoor alongside Saif Ali Khan. Directed by Akshat Verma and produced by Cinestaan Film Company, Kaalakaandi is scheduled to release on January 12.
In an interview with Cinespeaks, Saif Ali Khan speaks to us.
Q: Tell us something about Kaalakaandi?
Saif: Kaalakaandi is a very sensible, funny, engaging and an entertaining film. I am really proud of director Akshat Verma for making a film like Kaalakaandi. The film has an international kind of feel to it and will entertain everyone. There are some crazy things going on in the film and I loved the way how different stories connect with each other. There is a good balance of drama, laughter and emotions in the film. So, the film has entertainment value for everyone and I am really happy that I did this film.
Q: Why is the film’s title Kaalakaandi?
Saif: The film was initially titled as Kaalagandi which means Black Bum! (Laughs). The makers then changed it to Kaalakaandi.
Q: What is your take on the film clashing with 1921 and Mukaabaaz?
Saif: It has become very difficult to find a proper release date because of the huge number of films being released. Festive weekends are taken up by other actor’s. I had only one film which released on a festival holiday (Race 2) which made a good amount of money. I wish I could have more festival releases.
Q: Could you throw some light on the censor issues of the film?
Saif: The film has a bit of bad language and some risky stuff. The CBFC objected to the film and had ordered around 73 cuts. The film was then presented before the FCAT and they passed the film. Kaalakaandi is a very honest film which is true to its theme. So, we followed the process and got the film approved.
Q: Would we see you reuniting with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj once again in future?
Saif: Yes, I would love to work with him again. He is an amazing director and I love his ideas. Some ideas I don’t like as much. So, I love it and I would work with him again.
Q: Any plans of joining social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram?
Saif: I am really happy in the real world. I think social media can consume your time heavily. People can get lost talking to people. I would find things like Instagram me showing off! What would I post on it? This is my house and my baby! The love which everyone has showered on Taimur is very kind so far.
Q: Any recent films you loved watching?
Saif: I loved watching Dangal and Baahubali 2. They were amazing films. I keep thinking to watch more and try to watch films on Friday first-day-first-show. However, I was occupied with a lot of my films this year – Kaalakaandi, Bazaar and few portions of Chef.
Q: When can we see you and Kareena coming together?
Saif: You can come home to see us together (Laughs). I really don’t know about it.
Q: What are your forthcoming films?
Saif: Post Kaalakaandi, Bazaar is scheduled for release which is a commercial film based on the concept of Stock Market. I am really excited about my forthcoming film with R Madhavan.
